Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are the mentees?
A: They are students who are academically weak and need proper guidance. They mainly come from family with gross family income of less than $2,000 per month and display positive attitude towards learning.

Q: How does this scheme operate?
A: Before the mentoring commences, training will be provided for all mentors to equip them with the essential mentoring skills.

One or two mentees will then be assigned to each mentor. They will meet on a weekly basis at a mutually agreed time and venue for a duration of about 2 hours. They may spend about an hour on school work and the next hour on some other activities. There is a lot of flexibility and it is really up to the mentor to be innovative in planning and organising their activities. Occasionally, group outings may be organised to promote more interaction between the mentors and mentees.

There is a support system for the mentors where they will pair up and hold their mentoring sessions together. In the absence of one mentor, the other mentor will take over the session for both his own mentee as well as his buddy’s mentee.

Mentors are required to provide monthly feedback to keep us updated on their progress and any difficulties encountered.
